This Privacy Policy explains how LandChords (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information about you when you use our website, web application, and Android app (together, the “Service”). We keep this policy as plain as possible because we believe you deserve to understand exactly what happens with your data.
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you sign in via Google, your Google profile name and profile photo. If you sign in with Google, your Google name becomes your starting artist name, which you can change at any time. We store a hashed representation of your password; we never store it in plain text.
Song data. We store the songs, chord progressions, lyrics, section structures, vocal layer metadata, albums, and artist name you create in the app. This data is associated with your account and stored in our database. If you add a cover image to an album, it is kept in cloud storage at a long, hard-to-guess address; the address is not access-controlled, so anyone who has it can view the image.
Audio recordings. When you record vocal takes or voice notes, the audio is uploaded to our cloud storage so it stays with your song and is available on your other devices. This applies on every plan, up to your plan’s storage allowance; a recording made after you reach that allowance stays on your device for the current session only and is not uploaded. The Android app asks for microphone access only so you can record. All recordings belong to you.
Activity and achievements. To show your writing streak and achievements, we store the date you were last active in the app, your current and longest streaks, and which achievements you have unlocked.
Billing information. When you subscribe on the website, we share your email address and name with Dodo Payments to set up your billing account, and Dodo Payments collects and holds your payment details; we never see or store your card number. We store your Dodo customer and subscription IDs, your plan, and your subscription status so we know which features to unlock. If you subscribe in the Android app, Google Play takes the payment and RevenueCat manages the subscription for us; they receive your LandChords account ID (a random identifier, not your email address) and your purchase records.
Usage information. We collect basic technical data to operate the Service: browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and approximate timezone. We do not use fingerprinting techniques.
Product analytics. We record aggregate events about how the Service is used: pages viewed, which features are opened or used, and errors encountered. These events are linked to your account when you are signed in, and to a random browser identifier when you are not. Your creative work is never included. We do not send song content, lyrics, chord data, recordings, song titles, or AI prompts to our analytics provider, and we do not record your screen or your keystrokes. You can turn product analytics off at any time from your account settings.
Communications. If you contact us by email, we retain those communications to assist you and improve the Service.
Feedback. If you send feedback from inside the app, we store your message, rating, the page you sent it from, your plan and, if you are signed in, your account and email address, so we can follow up.
Notifications. If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your device (a Web Push subscription in the browser, or a Firebase Cloud Messaging token in the Android app) along with the device’s browser or app identifier string (its user agent). To send notifications at the right moment we also store your notification settings, the reminder time you choose, and your timezone, plus a record of which notifications we sent you and on which day, so you never get the same one twice.
Once notifications are allowed, streak reminders are on by default: a late-day nudge when your streak is about to reset, and an occasional nudge if you have been away for a while. Both are based on the activity dates described above. Product update notifications stay off unless you turn them on. Alerts about a failed subscription payment are always sent. You can turn reminders and streak reminders off in your account settings, or switch off notifications for LandChords in your browser or device settings. Deleting your account removes your push tokens, settings, and notification history.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your song content, lyrics, or recordings to train machine learning models without your explicit consent.

Your song content, lyrics, and recordings are not shared with other users by default. If you use the Song Sharing feature, a mixed audio file of your song (and optionally chord structure, lyrics, and artist metadata you choose to provide) is uploaded to public cloud storage and accessible to anyone with the share link. Share links are revocable at any time; revoking a link deletes the associated audio file. No account information is revealed to viewers of a shared link.
LandChords offers AI-powered songwriting tools. Most tools are available to all users subject to daily usage limits; Pro subscribers receive higher limits. Analyze Song is available to Pro subscribers only.
What data is sent. The following tools transmit content to Google’s Gemini API. No audio recordings are sent to Gemini.
Word Tools (Rhyme & Thesaurus). English rhyme lookups are powered by the Datamuse API — only the single word you type is sent, not your lyrics or song content. For non-English languages and thesaurus lookups, a single word is sent to Google Gemini.
Google as a sub-processor. AI requests are processed by Google Gemini. Your use of AI features is also subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
Data retention for AI requests. We do not persistently store song content sent to Gemini beyond standard server-side request logs retained for a limited operational period. Google’s own handling of API requests is governed by its privacy policy linked above.
Training. We do not use your lyrics, chords, or song content to train any machine learning models.
To protect our sign-up and sign-in forms from automated abuse, we use Cloudflare Turnstile, an invisible bot-detection service. Turnstile runs a challenge in the background when you interact with an auth form — no checkbox or puzzle is shown. As part of this process, Cloudflare may collect browser and device signals (such as user-agent, IP address, and interaction patterns) to distinguish humans from bots.
Cloudflare's handling of this data is governed by the Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Addendum. By using LandChords, you acknowledge that bot-protection checks are processed by Cloudflare in accordance with that policy.
LandChords uses browser localStorage to remember your session and preferences (such as the last-opened song). We use minimal, functional cookies required for authentication. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
Product analytics also uses browser localStorage rather than cookies. It stores a random identifier so we can tell repeat visits apart from new ones. That identifier is first-party: it is not shared with other sites, is not used for advertising, and is not used to build a profile of you across the web. You can switch product analytics off from your account settings, and we honour your browser’s Do Not Track setting automatically.
The app also keeps copies of your song on your device. If you write without an account, your song is kept only in that browser and is not sent to us until you sign up. When you are signed in, the app saves a local copy of each change before sending it to us, so your work survives a dropped connection; that copy is removed once the save succeeds, and all of them are removed when you sign out. Anyone with access to your device or browser profile could read these copies.
We retain your account data and song content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data and song content within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or accounting purposes. Audio recordings stored in cloud storage are deleted within the same timeframe.
How to delete your LandChords account. You can delete your account yourself, from the Android app or the website:
This immediately removes your account, profile, songs, albums, lyrics, chords, vocal recordings, album covers, share links, notification tokens, settings and history, streaks and achievements, feedback, and AI usage records, and cancels any active website subscription. If you cannot sign in, email privacy@landchords.com from the address on your account and we will delete it for you within 30 days. Billing records held by our payment provider are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Subscriptions bought in the Android app. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through Google Play. Cancel it in the Google Play Store app first, or Google will keep renewing it.
Product analytics. Analytics events are stored against a random account ID, never your email address. Deleting your account deletes the only record that links that ID to you; the events themselves remain with our analytics provider until its retention period ends. If you want them deleted sooner, email privacy@landchords.com.
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data: encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We will notify you promptly if a data breach affects your personal information as required by law.

California residents. The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used or disclosed. We do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA. To exercise your CCPA rights, use the contact address above.
The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your data may be stored and processed in countries other than where you live. Where we transfer data internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (such as standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission) to protect your information to the same standard described in this policy.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or by a prominent notice in the Service at least 14 days before they take effect. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision.
LandChords is the data controller for personal data processed under this policy.
